On Saturday, May 14, 2016, the Nevada Military Support Alliance honored and recognized the Nevada men and women of the United States Armed Forces at the 5th Annual Reno Gala hosted by the Reno Silver Legacy. The Gala is one of several fundraising events the NMSA puts on throughout the year as an opportunity for our community to get involved in supporting our local veterans.
The evening’s program began with a heartwarming tribute to TSgt. Stephanie Ronecker McLaughlin made by Brig. Gen. William Burks. “Stephie” was a tireless supporter of the Nevada Military Support Alliance and is greatly missed.
NMSA President, Scott Bensing, recognized the work of The Office of Military Legal Assistance, and the fundraising efforts of University of Nevada Reno fraternity Alpha Tau Omega Delta Iota, both promoting awareness of veteran’s needs here in our community. In addition, details of Nevada’s first Fisher House were shared as they celebrated the Ribbon Cutting February 11, 2016 and accepted their first families into the house just a few weeks later. The NMSA, along with the generosity of the Southern Nevada Community, proudly assisted the Fisher House in reaching their fundraising goals much sooner than expected.
Guest speaker of the evening was Former Director of Central Intelligence and Former Undersecretary of the Navy, R. James Woolsey, Jr. With twelve years of government service in addition to heading the CIA and the Intelligence Community, James entertained guests with his knowledge in energy, foreign affairs, defense, and intelligence matters.
The NMSA was once again amazed by the generous support of our wonderful community. Without it, the mission of the Nevada Military Support Alliance could not be accomplished.
