The premier LakeRidge Golf Course was the host for the Sixth Annual Nevada Military Support Alliance Golf Classic, held Friday, September 2, 2016. Thirty teams turned out for the “Playing for Our Heroes” tournament proudly presented by the RGJ Foundation. The NMSA was delighted to have two of their “heroes,” Ambassador Army Sgt Dylan Gray and Pfc. Daniel Tingle, out on the course both visiting and golfing with other players. For those heroes, no longer with us, fifty-seven Gold Star flags were delicately staged in honor of the Nevada servicemen who lost their lives in the line of duty.
After checking in, golfers were treated to a beautiful hosted continental breakfast and Bloody Mary Bar prior to the 18 holes of Best Ball tournament play. University of Nevada Reno’s ROTC made the Presentation of Colors, followed by the National Anthem, Invocation and Shotgun Start.
Many of our supporters and local businesses entertained golfers on various holes by offering drinks and snacks, photo opportunities, swag and games. Reno Buick GMC Cadillac were our Hole in One Sponsors offering a chance to win a beautiful new GMC pickup truck. We had some close shots, but unfortunately no one was lucky enough to drive away in it!
As golfers rolled in off the course, they were invited to “shop” for their tournaments swag. Dave Weiler with Sunglass Garage offered an array of gifts from sunglasses, Fit Bits, Bluetooth speakers, ski goggles and more. Golfers also enjoyed a buffet, silent auction, and awards presentation bringing the Sixth Annual Golf Classic to a close.
