The Alpha Tau Omega Delta Iota Fraternity hosted a two month long fundraising campaign in support of the Nevada Military Support Alliance. This is the second year in a row the fraternity has chosen to support the efforts of the NMSA. Fraternities and Sororities exist on the University of Nevada Reno campus to promote a unified community of integrity, character, and cultural diversity. The ATO embraces these core values and the importance of being an engaged member of society by volunteering and promoting philanthropy on campus and in their community.
ATO President Matthew Figone reported that during their fundraising efforts, they hosted a week-long event at Hilliard Plaza on campus. The fraternity set up a tent and camped out 24/7 from October 31, 2016 to November 4, 2016. No less than 5 fraternity brothers remained at the tent throughout the day and night collecting donations on behalf of the NMSA. Matthew also said they started a penny war between the fraternities and sororities so students could actively participate in donating. The fraternity received many compliments from fellow students who were inspired by the ATO’s commitment to serving their community.
On March 3, 2017, Matthew presented the NMSA Executive Board of Directors with a check from the Alpha Tau Omega Delta Iota Fraternity in the amount of $4,321.00. Fraternity brothers also reached out to family and friends, encouraging them to donate to the Nevada Military Support Alliance online raising an additional $1,327.50.
The NMSA is proud of these young men for their support and philanthropy efforts within our community.
